John Bellamy Comments: My mother use to talk about famous people in the movies who were long dead as ' ghosts on the screen'- and as we get older and as people die off who were / are famous, we notice it more when we see them as they are today rather than when they were famous - maybe decades past - and we are shocked how old they look - when just as many years have passed for us - and yet we always remember them as they were.
I know that - if I am still alive - the news will state that Barbra Streisand has died and after more than 50 years following her over 60 year career - career and buying every album and watching every film, I will be heart broken - and as she is currently 84 - the day will come - and the TV stations will all be running Streisand Film Seasons highlighting her career and radio stations will be playing her songs - and she will become a legend - ( she already IS a legend ) - like Judy garland - but much bigger than Judy Garland and will be remembered as the first real female mega star - singer - actress - producer - writer - director - all round perfectionist of TV, stage and screen.
Like George Michael or Michael Jackson, all ills that befell them during their lives - ie: Michael Jackson was a sexual paedophile and abuser - George Michael was not a happy bunny and took to heavy drug use - all will be forgotten and it is the music that will be remembered for all time and all will be forgiven, which is wrong as who forgives Saville - but hoards of admiring fans will weep and carry on - and they will be adored and worshipped like saints. Like Presley - who was on a mega slide into obscurity as his talent and behaviour was losing fans galore but he died at the right time and was made a saint by his fans and now he can do no wrong.
But at least we have plenty to remember these people by - their work - and Mathew Perry was a star in Friends and that series will forever be playing somewhere on the planet on some TV station somewhere and he will live on forever.
Such a waste though. So young.
