A new bill in Iowa would make attending drag performances with one’s own kids a felony punishable by up to five years in jail, and it just moved out of an Iowa House of Representatives subcommittee. The language of the bill is so broad that it could include any performance involving a transgender person, even if it’s not a drag performance, opponents argue.

People are reacting strongly online to Donald Trump’s latest declaration that he is “the king” in a nation whose foundational story is that of overthrowing a king in favor of democracy. His declaration comes shortly after he issued an executive order saying that he – not the Judicial Branch – has the final authority in determining what laws mean and his statement over the weekend that everything he does is legal because he is trying to “save” the country.

A Spanish friend of mine was stopped by a patrol on a road in Texas. The policeman inquired about her nationality. She answered, “I’m Spanish.” He quickly replied, “I’m not asking what your mother tongue is. I want your nationality.” She calmly repeated the same answer, but the policeman wouldn’t put up with her answer, “Spanish is a language, not a country”. Finally, she told him, “Look at my passport that you’re holding and see for yourself. I come from a country called Spain, where most people speak a language called Spanish!”
The policeman eventually conceded that he had never heard of that country. ( What a dumb MFer...) )
It’s all about the same here. Quite surprisingly, believe me, or not, English originated in a country called England. Native Americans, Canadians, and Australians didn’t use to speak that language, they learnt it from English migrants who, for different reasons, decided to settle there. The main difference is that in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Jamaica no-one will ever believe that their version or dialect of English should become the new standard of modern English. They kindly leave that to silly Yanks who still believe America is the best thing since sliced bread. So, well, yes, even though this might sound weird, most people who live in England speak English every day.
Not American.
Germany is pretty much like France or Spain. Young children in these countries start learning English when they are 9 or 10. And twelve years later or so, they are generally pretty good at it. However, that comes in addition to their mother tongue, be it German, French, or Spanish. English remains a foreign language which is not meant to be used at home but in foreign countries. Or quite exceptionally to help visitors in hotels, airports, or tourist information centres. However, don’t expect them to gladly speak English with people who don’t bother to learn a few words of French, German, or Spanish or who claim it’s not necessary since they happen to speak English - er - American.
The Germans are very friendly and helpful if you try to speak their tongue. My German is pretty rusty, but I always make an effort to speak German in a German-speaking country. I make a lot of mistakes; however, they’re usually very patient, and ready to help. If you’re not ready to learn a bit of German and assume everybody should speak English with you, you should stay at home!
It's embarrasing - cringingly embarrasing - to be an American and actually admit to being so dumb - so completely and utterly dumb, about so much of the world - and then argue that they are right when clearly - they haven't got a clue. It's goes way beyong embarrasing and into the realms of just dumb dumb uneducated unenlightened fools assuming that a country with only 8% of the worlds population and that the whole world must follow America in everything... WHEN THEY DON'T.

Here’s a new one. Did anyone know that a RUSSIAN STATE CONTROLLED MEDIA REPORTER was given entry into the Oval Office for the meeting with Zelenskyy. AP is banned, but RUSSIAN MEDIA allowed in? So Trump and Vance were not only Role Playing for American Media, but had a RUSSIAN REPORTER there to do his strong act . And they are trying to pretend this wasn’t an orchestrated ambush? Trump planned all this with Putin, to fake an excuse to refuse support, hoping Zelenskyy would crawl and beg. The Russian news are having a field day.
Russian news stated that “an insolent pig received a proper slap down at the Oval Office” oh yes…it was planned and orchestrated, one of the most shameful acts in USA history.
Nobody can tell me that, like the WH claims, that Russian somehow made his way in there undetected. And into the Oval Office near the president.? No way in hell, he was let in there…..it was arranged.

I usually winter in Florida and yet live in Vancouver, Canada, and besides - these days - completely ignoring anything that comes from America - ie: food and drink - I have decided to spend my winters in Mexico instead and give them my money and not America. This is not just me, but every man women and child in Canada is so pissed off at that fat bastard trying to take over and annex our country, it makes us unite in our hatred for anything that comes from America. To all the decent folks in the US - you have our sympathy but after all, YOU VOTED FOR THIS SHIT.
