Officers in Polk County went to a home on Saturday after a 911 call was made but nobody spoke.

The officers concluded that nobody lived there, but they found a male suspect and his girlfriend inside the home after going in through an unlocked door.

The woman told officers she had called 911 to have them help to move their belongings from the house they were burgling.

She also called to see if she could get a lift to the airport to spend the weekend in New York, the Polk County Sheriff's Office said.

In a Facebook post, the office said: "Deputies DID help them with their belongings, and DID give them a ride, but it wasn't to the airport... it was to the Polk Pokey.

"And they are welcome to stay there all weekend long. The Polk Pokey is much better than New York anyway."

The officers had been searching for the male suspect after identifying him from security video as a burglar at a Dollar General store in Poinciana, 35 miles south of Orlando, where several items were stolen earlier in the day, the sheriff's office said.

The man was charged with burglary and theft related to the store and also burglary of a residence.

The woman was charged with burglary of a residence.

Sorry, but this is one of the dumbest - stupidest, most moronic thing I have ever heard. A thief phones the police to help in a robbery and for a free lift to the airport ?

Are these people brain dead - or American ?

I truly truly truly despair for the future of humankind when we have such dummies in our human family.
