Many Americans assume everything in Europe has to be the same as in the USA and the few ( around 8% ) of Americans that actually have a passport and actually use it for somewhere other than Canada and Mexico - soon learn that the world is NOT organised and run to the American lifestyle / dream but each and every country has its own culture and lifestyle that are generally all centuries older than anything the USA - and many Americans - simply do not understand :- Like NO GUNS - 6 weeks annual holiday - Irony - 6 - 9 months Maternity Leave - and even FREE Health Care....and most of these are an anathema to many Americans. Oh and in the UK we drive on the left, have unarmed police and where you can cross the road wherever you want without being imprisoned for jaywalking. Many Americans assume America owns the rest of the world and that we all speak American, rather than they actually speak ENGLISH - which originally comes from ENGLAND...
Many Europeans see Americans as LOUD AND OBNOXIOUS, vulgar and crude. Gun swinging, anything foreign hating - Burgers and fries for breakfast and obese beyond belief but God Fearing ( hypocrites ) who assume the Bible really was written - or dictated - by God Him / Herself. War mongering to achieve global dominance and how they destroy other countries with political interfering if it suits them ( usually over resources like oil and gas ) and going to war against if the foreigner says ' Fuck off, ' but usually only if that country has something America wants / needs / demands.
Americans assume the rest of the world envies Americans and want to live there, when the opposite is actually true as who wants to live in a country where school kids carry guns and shoot up their school and teachers - where there is chronic disparity between rich and poor with the poor in the majority and living on the streets in tents and their cars - and where earthquakes and tornadoes destroy and kill and where health care stops in the middle of treatment if your insurance runs out and you are left / abandoned - to die.

How I view Europe as an American having lived in Europe for 6 years
The Helsinki-Toronto flight had 400 passengers but only 200 lunches. The airline messed up, putting the crew in a tough spot. But one clever flight attendant came up with a solution. About 30 minutes after take-off, she announced:
"Ladies and gentlemen, I’m not sure how this happened, but we have 400 passengers and only 200 lunches! Anyone who’s willing to give up their meal for someone else will enjoy unlimited wine for the flight."
Six hours later, she made another announcement: "Ladies and gentlemen, if anyone wants to change their mind, we still have 200 lunches available!"
So, the takeaway? Wine lovers really do have big, generous hearts! 😊
